The primary types of product defect claims

When you purchase any type of product, it’s only natural to assume that it will be safe to use. This doesn’t always hold true, as dangerous products make their way to market entirely too often.

Just because you purchase a dangerous or defective product doesn’t mean you will suffer an injury. In fact, if you know the product poses a threat, you can avoid using it at all costs.

Here are the three primary types of product defects:

— Defects in design. This is when the actual design of a product is defective, thus causing the potential for injury during regular use.

— Defects in manufacturing. This has nothing to do with the design, but instead comes into play as the result of the manufacturing process.

— Defects in warnings. If a product can be dangerous for any reason, it’s required that a written warning be included on the packaging. Neglecting to do so can lead to using the product in the wrong manner, thus causing an accident.

If you suffer an injury as the result of a defective product, it’s important to do two things:

— Receive immediate medical attention

— Review the product to better understand what happened

While your health comes first, you also need to focus on the cause of the accident. This will give you a better idea of your consumer and legal rights, thus putting you in position to take the appropriate steps in the future.

Should you suffer a financial loss as a result of the product, you may be able to file a lawsuit to receive compensation.
