Toy safety tips for the holiday season

With the holiday season in full swing, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself buying some toys. While there is nothing wrong with this, you need to do so with safety in mind.

Here are some toy safety tips that you should definitely follow:

  • Check for recalls before buying, such as on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website
  • Make sure the toy is age appropriate
  • Read all warning levels before gifting a toy
  • Show your child what the toy is and how to use it in the appropriate manner
  • Never give a small child a toy that could be a choking hazard
  • Think twice about giving a toy that contains batteries to a small child
  • Make sure plastic toys are strong enough (you don’t want them to break and cause injury)
  • Don’t purchase crib toys that could cause injury to a small child

These are just a few of the many toy safety tips to follow this holiday season. It’s not always easy to keep these in mind when making a purchase, but you should do your best. It only takes one mistake to cause serious injury or death, and that’s not a risk you should be willing to take.

If a defective toy ever injures your child, it goes without saying that you should seek immediate medical attention. Once you do this, learn more about what went wrong and your legal rights as a parent. You may be able to take steps that allow you to receive compensation for your child’s injuries and any other damages associated with the defective product.
