Driving is an integral part of life for millions of Californians. Public transit options exist but the infrastructure is built for people with their own cars and trucks. Although accidents are rare in most parts of the Golden State, a collision can result in serious damage to vehicle, severe injury or even death.

Holiday weekends and the season between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be treacherous on the roads. The coming winter brings rain and occasional fog to the California coast, making road conditions and visibility worse just as more people hit the road to spend time with their families.

An accident near the Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach damaged six vehicles, sent seven people to the hospital and killed one person. The crash happened on the day before Thanksgiving, when a vehicle traveling towards the ocean on Torrance Boulevard caused a chain reaction of collisions.

The scene closed the coast road at Torrance Boulevard for hours during a busy travel time while victims were evacuated, and the road was cleared after investigators had completed their work. Responders believed the accident was caused by one driver’s failure to stop for halted traffic in front of it.

People injured in car accidents or the families of people killed in vehicles have the right to seek financial damages to help make up for the loss in a tragedy caused by someone else. A lawsuit can get plaintiffs reimbursement for medical expenses, compensation for pain or emotional distress and other costs the court deems appropriate. An attorney can help you find the right step forward after a car accident.
